Lalbaugchi Rani is in news due to its innovative story-line of a special girl Sandhya. Is it a real person? It’s interesting how a filmmaker gets inspired by those little incidents which happen in his life. Laxman Utekar has worked as a cinematographer in Bollywood for more than 15 years now. Back when he was shooting ‘Don-2’ with Shahrukh Khan & Farhan Akhtar an incident occurred which got etched in his memory, from where he got the story of Lalbaugchi Rani.
They were shooting the Ganpati festival on the streets of ‘Lalbaug’. The whole crowd was a part of the shoot. In between this chaos, an elderly couple were searching for their lost girl, with a photo of her. Laxman enquired the couple and they went their way to search for their daughter. Laxman didn’t get to know what happened to the girl.
But those moments never left him, it kept troubling him for a long time. Utekar felt that those parents had a normal child and still they were so restless. But what if the child was disabled or mentally challenged? How difficult it would have become then for those parents. Years went by but Utekar couldn’t get over this thought of that lost child. And so ‘Lalbaugchi Rani’ came into existence. The film not only entertains, but also throws light on the special world of these special children.
The film stars Veena Jamkar in the lead as the ‘Lalbaugchi Rani’ & other actors Ashok Shinde, Prathamesh Parab, Parth Bhalerao, Neha Joshi, Nandita Dhuri, Reshma Shinde-Chaugule, Subrat Dutta, Jaywant Wadkar, Pratima Joshi, Suyash Joshi, Jagganath Nivgune. The film is produced by Sunil Manchanda and Laxman Utekar under the banner ‘Mad Entertainment’ and is presented by Bollywood veteran producer-director Boney Kapoor.
Lalbaugchi Rani releases all over Maharashtra on 3 June 2016.
