There are hundreds of films about husband and wife's relationship, fights and their reconciliations. Though the concept is very thin, its the plotline and script that makes it interesting. In last few months we have already witnessed the similar concept films in Marathi, 'Hrudayantar' and 'Mala Kahich Problem Nahi'. Tula Kalnnaar Nahi is the least entertaining of the lot.
The story is about a couple, Rahul (Subodh Bhave) and Anjali (Sonalee Kulkarni) who are married for 4 years now and always crib about the not so perfect nature of each other. They are not on talking terms and taunt constantly, obviously the love between them is lost. They even are shown counselling to save their marriage, but with no use. Finally they decide to separate and Anjali sends a divorce notice to Rahul.
Then starts the journey of their self-realisation and reconciliations. With many sub-plots and characters gets added during the travel. In the end, after the journey they realise that they have to say sorry and thank you to live a happy life together. "If the mobile hangs, you restart it. Then if the relationship hangs, do restart it."
Tula Kalnnaar Nahi is advertised as a light-hearted take on husband-wife's relationship and their fights. But while watching the film, you get irritated with the characters, their randomness, plot and subplots the film throws at you time to time. Though Subodh and Sonalee have tried their best to save the film, the other characters just keep coming and irritating. The film falls flat in story and script and even the journey becomes boring just like the empty roads it is shot on.
Director Swapna Waghmare Joshi has given 3 mediore films in last couple of years after her successful Mitwa. The romantic director in her seems lost in making these films. She could have taken so much cinematic liberty to show the light-hearted nature of these fights and the journey, Alas, the film is another masala film. Tula Kalnnaar Nahi does not engage you at all and the comedy is so flat that you better read the husband-wife jokes on whatsapp.
The saving grace are the 2 songs, Title track and Majha Hoshil Ka. The last 15 minutes of the film makes sense, but the rest of the film is all about Masala, which you might not digest. Please Watch this film if you are a die-hard Subodh-Sonalee fans.
