Dashakriya means the tenth day ritual of the deceased performed by the appointed Bramhan. In total there are 13 days of mourning for the decased once he/she is cremated. The rituals are supposed to bring the deceased to Moksha or Salvation from the cycle of rebirths. The story of Dashakriya unfold through the eyes of a 12 year old boy Bhanya and his friend Kirkirya. The trailer was launched in Mumbai in the presence of Cast and Crew on 1st November.
The trailer also shows the city of Paithan where the rituals are performed and shows the divide between the same community of Bramhans on the basis of the rituals they perform. The Kirvants, who perform Dashakriya are looked down by rest of Brahman community. It also reveals the disturbing realities around last rites and their commercialization. The film is produced by Kalpana Vilas Kothari and coo-produced by Neel Kothari under the banner of Rangneel Creations. It is written by Sanjay Krishnaji Patil on the orignal story of a novel by same name written by Baba Bhand. It is directed by Sandeep Bhalachandra Patil, whereas music is composed by Amitraj.
The film stars Dilip Prabhavalkar, Manoj Joshi, Aditi Deshpande, Nandkishor Choughule, Milind Phatak, Uma Sardeshmukh, Asha Shelar, Santosh Mayekar, Umesh Mitkari, Aarya Adhav and Vinayak Ghadigaonkar. There are more than 150 artists in small but important roles including Ananda Karekar, Jaywant Wadkar, Rasika Chavan, Anushree Phadnis, Pankaj Chemburkar, Sonali Magar, Deepali Donde, Vinod Donde and many more.
